Q6 of 51 Page 1

A single pea plant in your kitchen garden produces pods with viable seeds, but the individual papaya plant does not. Explain.

Pea plants are monoecious, bear bisexual flowers i.e., male reproductive organ (stamen) and female reproductive organ (carpel or pistil) present in the same flower. These flowers after self-pollination produce pods with viable seeds.

Papaya plants are dioecious bear unisexual flowers i.e., plant bearing male and female flowers on separate plants. Plants with unisexual flowers unable to produce viable seeds in absence of self-pollination.
