Explain enzyme-replacement therapy to treat adenosine deaminase deficiency. Mention two disadvantages of this procedure.

Adenosine deaminase (ADA) deficiency is a genetic disorder which can be treated with enzyme replacement therapy. In this treatment, patients are regularly injected with the functional adenosine deaminase enzyme.

Disadvantages


Therapy does not cure the disease completely. It is very expensive therapy as a repeated infusion of the enzyme is required.
