Predation is process which denotes predator-Prey relationship. The organism which catches and eats other organism is called predator and the organism which is killed is called prey. Although this association is a harmful but predator also play positive roles in the ecosystem. The positives roles are:

I. Predators help in maintaining species diversity in a community, by reducing the intensity of competition among competing prey species.

II. Predators keep prey population under control, thus regulate prey population.

III. Predators act as a channel for energy transfer from producer to different consumers in the ecosystem.
