Q6 of 110 Page 37

Find the first six terms of the sequence given by

a1 = a2 = a3 = 1 and an = an-1 + an-2 for n >3.

Given that a1 = a2 = a3 = 1 and an = an-1 + an-2 for n > 3.

Now, a1 = 1

⇒ a2 = 1

⇒ a3 = 1

⇒ a4 = a3 + a2 = 1 + 1 = 2

⇒ a5 = a4 + a3 = 2 + 1 = 3

⇒ a6 = a5 + a4 = 3 + 2 = 5

∴ The required terms of the sequence are 1, 1, 1, 2, 3 and 5.
