A workman is paid Rs 150 for each day he works and is fined Rs 50 for each day he is absent. In a month of 30 days, he earned Rs 2100. For how many days was he absent?

Let the number of days absent be x.

The number of days for which he was present at the work be (30 – x), as total days are 30.


According to the question,


⇒ (30 – x)150 – 50x = 2100


⇒ 4500 – 150x – 50x = 2100


⇒ 4500 – 2100 = 200x


⇒ 2400 = 200x


⇒ x = 12.


Hence,


Number of days he was absent is 12 days
