What are the main steps in coagulation of blood?

The main steps in the coagulation of blood are as follows :

a) Initially, at the site of the wound, the injured tissue cells release a substance called thrombokinase or Factor X.


b) The thrombokinase acts as an enzyme & along with the calcium ions, it converts prothrombin into thrombin.


c) Thrombin in the presence of calcium ions reacts with soluble fibrinogen & converts it into insoluble fibrin (Fibrin is a solid substance that forms threads which are sticky & forms a network at the wound).


d) Blood cells are trapped in the network of the fibrin. The solid mass left behind is called clot or thrombus.
