The blood groups of both the donor and recipient must be known before transfusing blood.

The blood groups of both donor and recipient must be known before transfusion because due to incompatibility agglutination of blood may occur which may lead to death of the person. The antibodies in the donors blood is not significant during transfusion as it gets diluted when mixed with the plasma of the recipients & is not able to cause much agglutination of red blood cells of the recipient.
