Only the veins and not the arteries are provided with valves.

Only the veins and not the arteries are provided with valves because most of the veins bring blood from the lower part of the body towards the heart against gravity. Thus to prevent the back flow of the blood the walls of veins contain valves. On the other hand , most of the arteries carry blood away from the heart towards the organs along the gravity so their walls are not provided with valves.
