Verify whether the values of x given in each case are the zeroes of the polynomial or not?

p(x) = x2 - 1; x = ±1

p(x) = x2 - 1


⇒ p(-1) = (-1)2 – 1


⇒ p(-1) = 1 – 1


⇒ p(-1) = 0


∴ Yes x = -1 is the zero of polynomial x2 – 1.


And,


⇒ p(1) = (1)2 – 1


⇒ p(1) = 1 – 1


⇒ p(1) = 0


∴ Yes x = 1 is the zero of polynomial x2 – 1.
