Q1 of 86 Page 56

Use suitable identities to find the following products

(1 + x) (1 + x)

(1 + x) (1 + x) = (1 + x)2

Using identity (a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2

Here a = 1 and b = x

⇒ (1 + x) (1 + x) = 12 + 2(1)(x) + x2

Therefore (1 + x) (1 + x) = 1 + 2x + x2
