What measures were taken by Robespierre to bring equality to the French Society?

He started the reign of terror during which he followed the policy of severe control and punishment. He took various measures to bring equality to the French Society which was:

• Equal distribution of meat and bread.


• The maximum upper limit was set on wages and prices.


• Citizens were made to eat loaf made of whole wheat. White flour which was expensive was banned.


• Churches were closed down and their buildings were made into barracks and offices, etc. were some of the policies followed by him.


• Peasants were forced to sell their grains in the cities at the prices fixed by the government.


• He also jailed and punished all those people who didn’t agree with his policies.


• He guillotined (it is a device, named after Dr Guillotin, which has two poles and a blade with which the person is beheaded) the individuals whom he found guilty.
