Q7 of 80 Page 48

In 5 years’ time, Reshma will be three times old as she was 9 years ago. How old is she now?

Let Reshma’s present age be x years.

According to the given condition,

x + 5 = 3 (x – 9)

x + 5 = 3x – 27 (Removing bracket)

⇒ x – 3x = -27 – 5 (Transposing 3x to LHS and 5 to RHS)

-2x = -32

⇒ x = (Transposing -2 to RHS)

x = 16

∴ Reshma’s present age is 16 years.
