Q3 of 90 Page 27

Verify whether the values indicated against the following polynomials are zeroes of the polynomial.

p(x)=(x-3)(x+5); x=3, -5

After substituting the value for variable in the polynomial if we get 0 then that value is called zero of the polynomial.

It means that if p(x) = 0, then x will be called as the zero of the polynomial.

p(x) = (x - 3)(x + 5); x = 3, -5

substituting x = 3 in (x - 3)(x + 5)

p(3) = (3 – 3)(3 + 5)

p(3) = (0)(8)

p(3) = 0

Yes x = 3 is zero of polynomial p(x) = (x - 3)(x + 5)

substituting x = -5 in (x - 3)(x + 5)

p(-5) = (-5 – 3)(-5 + 5)

p(-5) = (-8)(0)

p(-5) = 0

Yes x = -5 is zero of polynomial p(x) = (x - 3)(x + 5)
