Q4 of 90 Page 33

Expanding the following using suitable identities.

(2 + x – 2y)2

Using identity:

(x + y + z)2 = x2 + y2 + z2 + 2xy + 2yz + 2zx

(2 + x + (– 2y))2

= (2)2 + (x)2 + (– 2y)2 + 2(2)(x) + 2(x)(– 2y) + 2(– 2y)(2)

= 4 + x2 + 4y2 + 4x – 4xy – 8y
