Q1 of 90 Page 33

Using suitable identities find the products.

(x – 5) (x + 8)

Using identity -

(x + a)(x + b) = x2 + (a + b)x + ab, we get -

(x + (– 5)) (x + 8) = x2 + (– 5 + 8)x + (– 5)× 8

= x2 + 3x – 40
