We need to find the value of a.


We know that distance(S) between the points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) is



⇒ 82 = (a - 3)2 + (- 2)2


⇒ 64 = (a - 3)2 + 4


⇒ (a - 3)2 = 60


⇒ a – 3 = ± √60


⇒ a = 3 ± √60


∴ The values of a are 3±√60.
