When a straight line y = 2x + k passes through the point (1, 2), then the value of k can be obtained by substituting x = 1 and y = 2


in the equation of the straight line y = 2x + k.


i.e. 2 = 2×(1) + k


⇒ k + 2 = 2 (commutative property)


⇒ k = 2–2 = 0
