Q2 of 157 Page 22

Using a suitable identity, find each of the following products:

(5a – 3b) (5a – 3b)

Given (5a – 3b) (5a – 3b) = (5a – 3b)2

We know that

(a– b)2 = a2 + b2 – 2a×b

⇒ (5a – 3b) (5a – 3b) = ((5a)2 + (3b)2 – 2×5a×3b)

⇒ (5a – 3b) (5a – 3b) = 25a2 + 9b2 – 30ab
