Factorize :

x2 – 5x + 6

Given x2 – 5x + 6


Using (x + a)(x + b) = x2 + (a + b)x + ab … (I)


⇒ x2 – 5x + 6= x2 + ( – 2 – 3)x + ( – 2)×( – 3)


On comparing with (I),


a = – 2 and b = – 3


So, x2 – 5x + 6= (x – 2)(x – 3)
