Given x2 – 24x + 108


Using (x + a)(x + b) = x2 + (a + b)x + ab … (I)


⇒ x2 – 24x + 108= x2 + ( – 18 – 6)x + ( – 18)×( – 6)


On comparing with (I),


a = – 18 and b = – 6


So, x2 – 24x + 108= (x – 18)(x – 6)
