Q3 of 157 Page 22

Using the identity (x + a)(x + b) = x2 + (a + b)x + ab, find out the following products:

(2m + 3n) (2m + 4n)

Given (2m + 3n) (2m + 4n)

Using (x + a)(x + b) = x2 + (a + b)x + ab

(2m + 3n) (2m + 4n)= (2m)2 + (3n + 4n)(2m) + 3n×4n

⇒ (2m + 3n) (2m + 4n)= 4m2 + 14mn + 12n2
