Frame and solve the equations for the following statements:

Sum of two numbers is 60. The bigger number is 4 times the smaller one. Find the numbers.

Let the smaller number be x


Then bigger number = 4x


Then according to the question,


x + 4x = 60


⇒ 5x = 60



⇒ x = 12


⇒ 4x = 4 × 12 = 48


Hence, the numbers are 12 and 48.
