On substituting x = 1.6 – 2y in eqⁿ (ii), we get

Now, putting the y = 0.6 in eqⁿ (iii), we get

⇒ x + 2y = 1.6

⇒ x + 2(0.6) = 1.6

⇒ x + 1.2 = 1.6

⇒ x = 0.4

Thus, x = 0.4 and y = 0.6 is the required solution.
