Q7 of 176 Page 8

Which term of A.P. 3, 8, 13, 18, ..., is 248 ?

Here, a = 3, d = 8 – 3 = 5 and an = 248

To find : n

We have,

an = a + (n – 1)d

⇒ 248 = 3 + (n – 1) × (5)

⇒ 248 = 3 + 5n – 5

⇒ 248 = –2 + 5n

⇒ 248 + 2 = 5n

⇒ 250 = 5n

⇒ n = 50

Therefore, the 50th term of the given AP is 248.
