A person was appointed in the pay scale of Rs. 700–40–1500. Find in how many years he will reach maximum of the scale.

Let the required number of years = n


Given tn = 1500, a= 700, d = 40


We know that,


tn = a +(n – 1)d


⇒ 1500 = 700 + (n – 1)40


⇒ 800 = (n – 1)40


⇒ 20 = n – 1


⇒ n = 21


Hence, in 21years he will reach maximum of the scale.
