The denominator of a fraction exceeds the numerator by 2. If 5 is added to the numerator the fraction increases by unity. Find the fraction.

Let numerator be x and denominator be y.

According to the question,


The denominator of a fraction exceeds the numerator by 2 i.e.


Y = x + 2 (1)


If 5 is added to the numerator the fraction increases by unity



When 5 is added to the numerator the equation is



Now the fraction increases by unity i.e. 1



From (1) y = x + 2





5 = x + 2


x = 3
