Q18 of 54 Page 77

Three times the smallest of three consecutive odd number decreased by 7 equal twice the largest one. Find the number.

Let three consecutive odd numbers be x, x + 2, x + 4

Eg - : If first odd number is one then other two will be 3 = 1 + 2 and 5 = 1 + 4

Smallest consecutive number = x

Largest consecutive number = x + 4

According to the question,

3x – 7 = 2(x + 4)

3x – 7 = 2x + 8

3x – 2x = 7 + 8

x = 15

First number = x = 15

Second number = x + 2 = 15 + 2 = 17

Third number = x + 4 = 15 + 4 = 19
