Taking quantity of milk required extra as x litre and total expenditure on milk Rs. Y. Write a linear equation representing the above information.

Fixed charges of monthly expenses = Rs 700 for milk

Let quantity of extra milk required = x litre


Total expenditures on milk = y


Rate of taking extra milk = Rs 25/l


Total expenditures of milk = Fixed charges + Quantity of milk × Cost of milk per litre


∴ y = 700 + 25x
