On a school picnic, a group of students agrees to pay equally for the use of the full boat and pay RS 10 each. If there had been 3 more students in a group each would have paid Rs. 2 less. How many students were there in a group?

Let the number of students be x.

Total money paid = Number of students × Money paid by each student (1)


Therefore, total money = 10 x (2)


If there had been 3 more students then number of students = x + 3


Now, each student has paid Rs2 less = 10 – 2 = 8


From (1)


Total money paid = 8 (x + 3)


= 8x + 24 ……(3)


Equate (2) and (3)


10x = 8x + 24


10x – 8x = 24


2x = 24


x = 12


Therefore, there are 12 students.
