Show that x = — 2 is a solution of 3x2 + 13x + 14 = 0.

The given quadratic equation is 3x2 + 13x + 14 = 0


Putting x = – 2,


L.H.S.


3.(–2)2 + 13.(–2) + 14


3 x 4 – 26 + 14


12 – 26 + 14


26 – 26


= 0


Hence, x = – 2 is a solution of 3x + 13x + 14 = 0
