Check whether the following are quadratic equations:

(x − 2)2 + 1 = 2x − 3

Given; (x − 2)2 + 1 = 2x − 3

⇒ x2 − 2x + 4 + 1 = 2x − 3


⇒ x2 − 2x + 5 − 2x + 3 = 0


⇒ x2 − 4x + 8 = 0


∵ The highest power of x in the equation is 2;


∴ It is a quadratic equation.
