Check whether the following are quadratic equations:

x (2x + 3) = x2 + 1

Given; x (2x + 3) = x2 + 1

⇒ 2x2 + 3x = x2 + 1


⇒ 2x2 + 3x − x2 − 1 = 0


⇒ x2 +3x − 1 = 0


∵ The highest power of x in the equation is 2;


∴ It is a quadratic equation.
