Q38 of 168 Page 7

The sum of the ages (in years) of a son and his father is 35 and the their ages is 150. Find their ages.

Let the father and his son’s age be ‘X’ yrs and ‘Y’ yrs respectively.

X + Y = 35
X × Y = 150

150 + Y2 = 35Y
Y2 – 35Y + 150 = 0
(Y–5) (Y–30)=0
Y=5

the son's age (Y) = 5 yrs and father's age (X) = 30 yrs.
