Check whether the following are quadratic equations:

(x − 1)2 = (x + 1)2

Given; (x − 1)2 = (x + 1)2

⇒ x2 − x + 12 = x2 + x + 12


⇒ x2 − x + 1 − x2 − x − 1 = 0


⇒ −2x = 0


∵ The highest power of x in the equation is 1;


∴ It is not a quadratic equation.
