Q11 of 168 Page 7

Find the values of k, for which the given equation has real roots:

kx2+ 4x + 1 = 0

Roots are equal

∴ d = 0

d = b2 – 4ac

d = (4)2 – 4 (1) (k)

d = 16 – 4k

Put d = 0

0 = 16 – 4k

4k = 16

k = 4
