Solve the following system of equation by elimination method.

x + 2y = 7, x – 2y = 1

The given equations are


x + 2y = 7 … (1)


x – 2y = 1 … (2)


Adding (1) and (2),


⇒ x + 2y + x – 2y = 7 + 1


⇒ 2x = 8


⇒ x = 4


Substituting x = 4 in (1),


⇒ 4 + 2y = 7


⇒ 2y = 7 – 4 = 3


⇒ y =


∴ (4,) is the solution to the given system.
