Q5 of 227 Page 90

Find the LCM of the following

am + 1, am + 2, am + 3

Given terms: –

am + 1, am + 2, am + 3

Formula used: –

LCM = Least Common Multiple

Means it is the lowest term by which every element must be

divided completely;

am + 1 = am × a

am + 2 = am × a × a

am + 3 = am × a × a × a

first find the common factors in all terms

Common factor = am × a

Common factor from any 2 terms

= ( am × a) × [(1)(a)(a2)]

= ( am × a) × a[(1)(1)(a)]

then multiply the remaining factors of terms in common

factor to get the LCM

= ( am × a2)(a)

= ama3

Conclusion: –

The LCM of given terms [am + 1, am + 2, am + 3] is ama3
