Q1 of 805 Page 11

Draw a circle of radius 6 cm. From a point 10 cm away from its centre, construct the pair of tangents to the circle and measure their lengths.

Step 1: We plot a circle of radius 6 cm.

Step 2: We plot point B 10 cm away from centre O.

Step 3: We construct the perpendicular bisector of OB which meets OB at C.

Step 4: Taking OC as radius and C as centre we construct a circle. It intersects the first circle at points M and N.

Step 5: We join points B and M, and points B and N to get our tangents to the circle, BM and BN.

Step 6: We measure the tangents to find BM = BN = 8 cm.
