Draw a line segment AB of length 8 cm. Taking A as centre, draw a circle of radius 4 cm and taking B as centre, draw another circle of radius 3 cm. Construct tangents to each circle from the centre of the other circle.


Steps of Construction:


1. Draw a line segment AB = 8 cm.



2. Taking A center, draw a circle of radius 4 cm.



3. Taking B as center, draw a circle of radius 3 cm.



4. Construct the perpendicular bisector of AB and let it intersect AB at O.



5. Draw a circle with radius OB.



6. Let the new circle intersect the other circles at P, Q, M and N.



7. Join AM, AN, BP and BQ.



The required tangents are AM, AN, BP and BQ.
