Q4 of 805 Page 1

List the type of cry genes that provide resistance to corn plants and cotton plants respectively against lepidopterans.

Cry gene is a type of crystalline protein toxins produced by Bacillus thuringiensis it encode by cry gene, specifically found in the nematodes and insects of a different order such as Lepidoptera, Coleoptera and Diptera also in some plants. There are 2 types of gene present, cry1AC and cry1AB. It's commercially used as an insecticide to protect the plant from insects. The genetically modified plant cotton and corn consist of protein crystalline which prevents the damage by insects like butterflies, if passed in the gut of the insect it activates the toxin and kills the insect due to the alkaline medium.
