Write the role of histone protein in packaging of DNA in eukaryotes.

Histone is a positively charged basic protein. A histone octamer is an organised unit of 8 molecules of histones around which the negatively charged DNA wraps itself. This unit is called as a nucleosome. Therefore, the basic role of histone is to package DNA into structural units called nucleosome.
