What is an auto-immune disease?

At certain times due to genetic or some unknown reasons, the body starts attacking its own cells which results in damage to the body. This is called auto-immune disease where the body is attacking self cells as part of the immune system response. The responses are similar to how the body would react against pathogens.

Some examples of autoimmune diseases are: rheumatoid arthritis, Addison disease, etc.
