List any two types of IUDs that are available for human females and state their mode of action.

Two types of IUDs that are available for human females are:

(i) Copper releasing IUDs: Copper releasing IUDs like CuT, Cu7, Multiload 375 increase the phagocytosis of sperms within the uterus and the Cu ions released suppress the sperm motility and the fertilizing capacity of sperms.


(ii) Hormone releasing IUDs: Hormone releasing IUDs like Progestasert, LNG-20 makes the uterus unsuitable for implantation and the cervix becomes hostile towards the sperms.
